And sometimes, they work!
Hi, I’m Caleb Chaponis. If you’re here, you’re probably interested in some of the things I’ve worked on.
This portfolio website is mostly made up of personal projects, since I can’t share photos of designs from my current workplace.
That being said, I still haven’t stopped working on a lot of things. Some don’t pan out, but sometimes, they work! What is here are some of those favorites. I hope you enjoy!
I don’t have any good pictures yet, so here is a unrelated tensile test sample I made. I’ll put a picture up once I find a good one though!
My Current Project
I dislike how inconsistent the interlayer adhesion of FDM 3D prints can be. I can try to optimize all I want, but even optimizing brings with it uncertainty of what the exact values of a print’s mechanical properties are.
To handle that I have a project I am working on where I create a “low powered” tensile tester which hooks up to an Arduino. My hope is to be able to pull data from a tensile test and export it to an app to view the stress-strain curve of prints under different operating conditions.
Past Projects
Plastic Furniture
Rochester Institute of Technology - 2024
Much of my education at RIT was focused on plastic product development and design. For example, I designed a cabinet intended to be manufactured using only injection molding. All parts have had Autodesk Moldflow run for them and FEA has been performed to confirm maximum load.
Metal Detection Rover
Rochester Institute of Technology- 2023
This is a project I completed during my time at RIT with a team of four. It is a robot designed to automatically comb the beach and mark where metal has been detected, and I was chiefly responsible for the programming and integration of the electrical components.
Some of my other work.
