I’ve Made Lamps
My favorite projects are the ones that feel like they come out of nowhere, and this was one of them. My partner is a developer and one of the games she has worked on is Good Luck Valley, a game featured by RIT as a highlight of their Game Development Program.
This is a mushroom from that game. I designed the entire base and also added all of the more artistic touches such as the rocks and bushes. It is far more artistic than what I am used to, but I loved stretching out of my comfort zone!
Modelled in SolidWorks
The full assembly was made in SolidWorks, although the modelling was relatively rudimentary since most of the details came from more artistic methods. The underside
Magnetic Top
The top of the lamp uses a magnet so caps can be interchanged. The lights got warm enough that the PLA ended up separating along layer lines over several thermal cycles, so internal steel reinforcement was added to create a composite structure… which is a fancy way of saying I tapped in a nail.
Designed for Concrete
The bottom has areas meant for electronic wiring and components separate from large cavities, intended to be filled with a concrete mixture to weigh the lamp down and ensure it doesn’t fall from any shelves.
